EAMS Eighth Grade Promotion Letter to Families
February 24, 2025
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Dear 8th Grade Students and Parents/Guardians,
Promotion is the culminating activity that represents the completion of a student’s hard work and achievement from 6th through 8th grade. The 8th-grade Promotion Ceremony, the 8th-grade dance, and the 8th-grade field trip are not requirements for 8th graders to move on to High School. They are a privilege and a reward that are earned throughout the year. We expect all 8th graders to be able to participate in the activities and we expect all 8th graders to exhibit positive behavior and academic excellence until the last day of school.
We are sending this letter to ensure that every parent receives the information needed for your child’s successful completion of 8th grade. Please keep this letter as a reference for the rest of the year.
Students who are in good academic and citizenship standing are eligible to attend the end-of-year activities:
- 8th grade dance (Friday, May 9th)
- 8th grade field trip -Six Flags (Friday, May 16th)
- Promotion ceremony (Thursday, May 29th - 6:00 pm East Avenue Quad)
Please pay particular attention to the eligibility and payment guidelines on the next page. We are hopeful that all of our students will participate in the planned events.

A blue promotion gown will be provided to each student to borrow for use during the ceremony. Gowns will be returned at the end of the evening.
In order to participate in this activity, students must have passing grades in all of their classes for the third trimester. We encourage our eighth graders to see this event as one for which they "dress for success." Jeans, flip-flops, and hats are not appropriate for this event and are not permitted at the ceremony. Note that it is possible for students not to have the grades for the Six Flags trip but still be able to participate in the other two promotion-related activities.
Dress Code:
Robes must be worn during the ceremony. Robes will be provided and should be returned at the end of the ceremony. Families should hold flowers and/or leis until after the ceremony. Please no hats, sunglasses or other headgear. Please no horns.
Seating:
There will be no reserved seating at the promotion ceremony. The gates will remain locked on the day of promotion until 2:15 p.m. We ask that all families respect the disabled seating areas and are considerate of others. We have limited seating with the chairs available. We also ask that families do not bring noisemakers (as they can create distractions), balloons (which can obstruct the view), or animals to the ceremony. Thank you for your cooperation.
